Who we are

Lutherans adhere to biblical, historic Christianity. We confess faith in the one and only Triune God, Father Almighty, Lord Jesus Christ and Holy Spirit, as described throughout the Holy Scriptures and detailed in the Apostle’s, Nicene and Athanasian Creeds.

We practice the Sacrament of Holy Baptism.

“Therefore, go and make disciples of all nations, baptizing them in the name of The Father, The Son and The Holy Spirit.”

-Matthew 28:19

We practice the Sacrament of the Altar in Holy Communion.

“…The Lord Jesus on the night when he was betrayed took bread, and when he had given thanks, he broke it and said ‘This is my body, which is for you. Do this in remembrance of me.’ In the same way he also took the cup after supper saying, ‘This cup is the new covenant in my blood. Do this, as often as you drink it, in remembrance of me.’ For as often as you eat this bread and drink the cup, you proclaim the Lord’s death until he comes.”

-1Corinthians 11:23-26

*If you would like to take Communion, please speak to Pastor Weller before the service. In accordance with Holy Scripture, Shepherd of the Valley practices close Communion.

“Whoever, therefore, eats the bread or drinks the cup of the Lord in an unworthy manner will be guilty concerning the body and blood of the Lord. Let a person examine himself, then, and so eat of the bread and drink of the cup. For anyone who eats and drinks without discerning the body eats and drinks judgment on himself.”

-1Corinthians 11:27-29

“It is the true body and blood of our Lord Jesus Christ under the bread and wine, instituted by Christ Himself for us Christians to eat and drink.”

-Martin Luther from the Small Catechism

*The Lutheran Service Book is used in most services. A handout is provided before the service with references to follow along.
